"The Harvest": Joel Kachi Benson's New Documentary Sheds Light on the Chibok Girls' Tragedy and Triumphs

Renowned documentary filmmaker Joel Kachi Benson embarks on a poignant journey with "The Harvest," delving into the aftermath of the Chibok girls' abduction. Known for his impactful work as co-director of the Disney Original "Madu" and producer of the award-winning VR experience "Daughter of Chibok," Benson brings a wealth of experience and empathy to this project.

"The Harvest" intimately follows the lives of four resilient Nigerian mothers from the Chibok community in Borno State, showcasing their relentless efforts to educate their children despite immense challenges. This documentary marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic attack by the terrorist organization Boko Haram, which resulted in the abduction of 276 young girls from a school in Chibok village.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Joel Kachi Benson shared his profound insights: "I have spent the last five years with the mothers and survivors of the Chibok kidnappings. I've listened to their stories, and what I've learnt is that these women are more than the tragedy that is mostly used to describe them. My aim with 'The Harvest' is to give them a platform to tell their own story and show a side to these heroines that the world hardly sees: a community of mothers who have stood, and continue to stand as pillars, working together to make tomorrow better for their children. That is the ultimate bravery."
