The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a declaration of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, as wanted. This action comes after the ex-governor failed to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday for his arraignment concerning alleged money laundering amounting to N84 billion.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the anti-graft agency urged individuals with pertinent information regarding Bello’s whereabouts to promptly report to the nearest police station.
The statement reads: “EFCC Declares Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Wanted. The former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is sought by the EFCC for his involvement in economic and financial crimes amounting to N80.2 Billion.
“Anyone with information on his location should immediately notify the Commission or the nearest Police Station.”
Prior to the scheduled arraignment, EFCC operatives, alongside personnel from the Department of State Services, Police, and other security agencies, surrounded Bello’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday. However, he was discreetly escorted out of the premises by the current governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
