MARGARET coming outside the club, walking on the pedestrian, two guys walking behind her, she notices them and pays no attention at first, but they move a little faster, she immediately senses danger and tries to run, they run in pursuit of her, before she could move father, one immediately grabs her, holds her tight so she can’t move, but she is restless, fighting her way through. The other guy holds her leg, they cross over to a car by the other side of the street and shove her in. the car is dark, she tries to fight her way out of the car, screaming
VOICE
It’s been a while Margaret
The voice calms her calms her screaming.
SAM puts on the light in the car; she is surprised to see him.
SAM
I knew you would lead me right
to her, all I had to do was wait.
MARGARET
Sam?
SAM
Hi Margaret, it’s been a while.
MARGARET
Yeah.
SAM
You do not seem happy to see me.
MARGARET
Should I be?
SAM
You owe me a daughter.
MARGARET
I told you before, I don’t have
Her.
SAM
(chuckles)
Alright I believe you. You know
We should go out on a date, I never
Got over pretty face.
MARGARET
I don’t trust you.
SAM
Me too, see we have something
in common. Alright, you bore me,
you can leave now.
He unlocks the door. Margaret is not eager to get out, she is weak, almost scared, but she tries to hide it from him.
SAM
You seem eager for the date.
She stares at him with a cheesy smile and leaves.
MIKE’S HOUSE, DAY
Mike and Bunmi enters, mike carrying the little luggage in. it’s been a while Bunmi was home, she takes it in for a moment, the sitting room is still as scanty as usual, but the punching bag is no more there.
BUNMI
Where is your punching bag?
MIKE
(He dumps the bag by the side)
I decided to move my workout outside in
The backyard.
BUNMI
The punching bag made this room
A little beautiful.
MIKE
I remember teaching you how to punch
When you were younger.
BUNMI
I was a bad student.
MIKE
Yeah you were. But you are
But you never give up even when you
Are knocked down.
BUNMI
(She smiles)
Is that a compliment from you?
MIKE
Don’t get too excited. And yeah, I saw you
And your boyfriend at the last fight.
BUNMI
(Blush slightly)
He is not my boyfriend.
She walks towards her room, intentionally trying to avoid the conversation.
Mike ignores her and jumps on the couch to relax.
Bunmi stops, almost as if she just remembered something.
BUNMI
How about my mum?
Mike turns to her surprised.
BUNMI
When is she coming?
MIKE
(Finding the words hard to say)
Soon. I thought you hated her.
BUNMI
I do, but then I want to know how she
Looks like, maybe if she tells me
Why she left, I might understand.
MIKE
Okay. You need to relax, you look
Tired.
They both share a smile before she leaves.
MARGARET’S HOUSE DAY
Mike enters in a rush happy, Margaret is packing her things, she plans to leave, seeing her pack, he tries to calms himself.
MIKE
Are you packing?
MARGARET
Yeah mike, I have to go back to
New york tomorrow. The devil is here.
MIKE
Sam?
MARGARET
And he is after my daughter, he would
Not her, I would not be the reason
why he would.
MIKE
Bunmi is ready to forgive you,
She just wants to see you.
His words pauses Margaret for a while, you can see the obvious tiny smile at the corner of her face.
MARGARET
Really?
MIKE
Yeah.
MARGARET
She can’t meet me now.
(tears almost falling down her eyes)
Tell her I am not coming.
MIKE
Meg, you don’t have to let
Separate you from your daughter.
MARGARET
You don’t know him, he is a monster.
He gets what he wants from a thing,
And then he crushes it. The only reason
I am alive is because, I have what he wants
MIKE
All you do is run, you have to
Fight sometimes, you never know
How strong you are till you try.
MARGARET
Mike, I am not risking it, my daughter
Is in the middle of this gun fight, no way.
MIKE
You are going to regret this.
MARGARET
Some sacrifices are worth it.
MIKE
Some are just stupid
Mike leaves.
MIKE’S HOUSE, SITTING ROOM.
Mike comes in to see Bunmi training with the punching bag, she does not even notice he is there.
MIKE
You brought it back in.
BUNMI
Yeah, I needed to take some load off.
MIKE
You have gotten good.
BUNMI
I watched you all my life, I would
Pick up something.
She continues with the punching bags.
MIKE
Your mum is not coming anymore.
The news overwhelms her, she misses her punch, she turns and there is disappointment and hate in her eyes. She can barely say a word.
BUNMI
It’s fine, it does not change anything.
Walking to her room feels like a thousand miles, she can’t hold it anymore as tears stream out of her eyes. She falls on her bed, screaming in her pillow.
Bunmi tries to fix herself, act strong, she quickly, goes to her locker, there is a business card, the one Margaret gave, and she dials the number still crying softly.
BUNMI
Hello.
MARGARET V.O
Hi, who is this?
BUNMI
(Crying softly)
Bunmi, you said I should call
If I ever wanted to talk,
I want to talk.
