Authorities of the Akwa Ibom State University have been suspended indefinitely for allegedly raping a female student.

A statement released by the Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the institution, Akaninyene Ibanga, states that the rape incident took place at the Obio Akpa Campus of the institution in Oruk Anam LGA.

The suspended students include Akpan, Udeme Matthew Essien, Godwin Fidelis Bassey Courage Joseph and  Bassey Godspower Columbus.

According to Ibanga, the students were suspended by the university authorities as a normal procedure to allow the police investigate and establish their level of involvement in the crime.
